This girl can!

By Pie Recruitment

‘This Girl Can’ has been hitting headlines again for their innovative campaign celebrating active women and aiming to help others overcome their fear of judgement.

You've seen inspirational quotes that encourage you to get out and do something strange—something you wouldn't normally do—but getting out of your routine just takes so much work. There's actually a lot of science that explains why it's so hard to break out of your comfort zone, and why it's good for you when you do it. With a little understanding and a few adjustments, you can break away from your routine and do great things.

It's important to push the boundaries of your comfort zone, and when you do, its kind of a big deal. But what is the "comfort zone" exactly? Why is it that we tend to get comfortable with the familiar and our routines, but when we're introduced to new and interesting things, the glimmer fades so quickly?

It got me thinking that this concept isn’t one that should be confined to the sports industry or, indeed just women. The majority of us could do with a bit of a helping hand when it comes to being pushed out of our comfort zones. Whether it’s in the recruitment industry, in your preparation for that all important job interview, or at home telling your loved one about a secret desire, we should all take inspiration from the ladies who front this campaign and go out there and do it – ‘We ALL can’!

The "This girl can" campaign is based on a powerful insight: that the fear of judgement by others is the primary barrier holding women back from participating in sport. This fear covers concerns over their appearance, ability, or the simple fact they are choosing to spend time on themselves, rather than on their families. Tackling this fear was seen as key to tackling the gender gap.
