Elon Musk’s surprise unveiling of the Tesla Roadster yesterday evening, proves that driving an electric car is not only the future but that electric will also outperform both the Lamborghini & Aston Martin in terms of speed and economy.
The Roadster will be the fastest production car ever, breaking the 2 second barrier, reaching 60mph in 1.9 seconds and being able to cover a ¼ mile in less than 9 seconds. This is a first for a car of this kind. Musk was quoted saying “Driving a gasoline sports car is going to feel like a steam engine with a side of quiche.”
Oh, and there is a small matter of cost and fuel efficiency. The Tesla Roadster will still set you back $200,000 but will do 620 miles in a single charge. You compare that to the Aston Martin Vanquish which will cost you $287,000 and does 13-mpg & Lamborghini Aventador, which will cost you a staggering $535,000 but performs slightly better than the Aston Martin, doing 18-mpg.
I certainly am. I love cars and would classify myself as a bit of a petrol head, but I really feel that times are changing.
We’re all going to have to get used to hearing the whizz of an electric sports car flying by rather than the roar of the traditional sports car!
Elon Musk, the Chief Executive of electric car maker Tesla, unveiled a surprise new vehicle on Thursday night - a roadster that he said would be the "fastest production car ever" made. Capable of going from 0-60 mph in 1.9 seconds, the Tesla Roadster would be the first such car ever to break the two second mark, the entrepreneur said at a launch near Los Angeles.
