Don't understand it, so should you vote??

By Mel Churcher

So, here we are again! Faced with the doom & gloom of the General Election.

I’m not here to educate you, neither am I here to tell you what to, or not to do!

What I am here to do, is to open my own little debate on ‘to vote or not to vote’. I may offend some people by being so nonchalant about the whole process, but I have to be honest and I don’t believe there is any other way.

We have had this discussion over and over in the office, at home, at my parents and I am still no closer to deciding the fate of my vote.

Here is my predicament, I don’t generally follow politics nor do I completely understand the ins and outs, so there I sat at 6 am this morning trawling various websites to gain a clearer understanding of the right and wrong…and it got me nowhere.

I did however come across this savvy little website that helps to offer you a non-biased opinion for your voting. It takes a little time and if you're anything like me, you may find you still are not much clearer by the end of it but for the people who have a vague understanding, it may well affect your last minute vote.

You can see my result from the picture. Some would say my mind is made up but unfortunately, that is not the case, merely because I didn’t have enough of an understanding to determine which selections best suited my outlook. Therefore I am still in a predicament and consequently unsure whether I should vote or abstain?

As always I took my thoughts to my Dad, and advised him that it was my intention ‘not to vote’ this time - certainly whilst I am unable to make an educated decision.

His response - ‘wash your mouth out!’ - good old Dad!

But really my question to you is, if you are not armed with enough information to make a well informed decision, should you vote or not?
