WHO ARE YA?

By Pie Recruitment

It shocks me how many people cut corners on this question, “Why do you want to work for us?”

The answer is – you don’t know unless you have done some research!

Don’t mistake this for memorising Wikipedia so that you can answer this question like a rehearsed monkey. Or talking about the culture, progression and how they look like a good company to work for, established brand etc etc…

This question is an opportunity to demonstrate how much time you have invested into the business and the interviewer and most importantly, as it says on the tin, make sure that this is a business that you want to work for!

Some tools to help are:

  • Company website and other platforms that they may use (Facebook, Twitter, Blogs, LinkedIn)
  • Customer/Client reviews
  • Your network – do you know anyone who knows someone in that business?
  • Industry bodies and trade press
  • I also recommend doing a bit of stalking on LinkedIn on the people who are interviewing you.

By doing your research, you will be able to confidently say what research you have done, what you know, what you like, and why you could be a good fit for the business.

So do your due diligence and stand out from the crowd! Be that candidate who really sticks in the interviewer's mind for the right reason!

First things first, this is an excellent opportunity for you to show off what you know about the company. You can talk all day about how excited you are about joining the team, but nothing will trump actually knowing a thing or two about the place you’re interviewing with. So, to prepare, spend some time honing in on what you know about the company and select a few key factors to incorporate into your pitch for why you’re a good fit.
