Elon Musk’s surprise unveiling of the Tesla Roadster yesterday evening, proves that driving an electric car is not only the future but that electric will also outperform both the Lamborghini & Aston Martin in terms of speed and economy.
The Roadster will be the fastest production car ever, breaking the 2 second barrier, reaching 60mph in 1.9 seconds and being able to cover a ¼ mile in less than 9 seconds. This is a first for a car of this kind. Musk was quoted saying “Driving a gasoline sports car is going to feel like a steam engine with a side of quiche.”
Oh, and there is a small matter of cost and fuel efficiency. The Tesla Roadster will still set you back $200,000 but will do 620 miles in a single charge. You compare that to the Aston Martin Vanquish which will cost you $287,000 and does 13-mpg & Lamborghini Aventador, which will cost you a staggering $535,000 but performs slightly better than the Aston Martin, doing 18-mpg.
