After attending a trade show for the first time in a long time last week, I realised how valuable attending networking events can be.
If I think back to the first trade show that I attended, being a recruiter I was slightly anxious thinking about what kind of reaction I would get from people, but these events are all about mutual benefits. How can you offer a service or help another? I’ve learnt over time that planning ahead of the event is important - why you are going? Who do you want to meet? And set yourself a couple of objectives to get out of the event.
Most of these events provide a laid back atmosphere to have a chat with similar people in your industry, and they tend to be informal but can lead to opportunities and working together in the future. Ultimately what is better than getting the opportunity to meet someone face-to-face and create a lasting impression in the minds of the people you are meeting?
So much so, I’ve already got my next event planned in the diary, it’s the FleetWorld show at Silverstone and it’s next week – so feel free to come and introduce yourself if you’re also attending.
