Food in the Nude.

By Pie Recruitment

Now if you thought this was going to be about dining in the buff then you’re very much mistaken (but if that’s your sort of thing, then just as an FYI there’s a much bigger following of dining in the nude in France - if that's what you're after!)

No, I’m talking about single-use plastic bags and plastic pollution - this is BIG in the news at the moment and so it should be. It’s great to see brands starting to do something about their plastic footprint. Like this supermarket chain in New Zealand who stopped wrapping their fresh products in plastic. It's proving to be a big hit with their customers as they’ve seen up to a 300% rise in sales on some produce lines.

Single-use plastic bags have reduced by 85% in the UK & the government plans to extend charges to ALL retailers by 2020, but it still feels like more could be done in the UK to reduce our footprint. I don't know about you, but I feel like I see plastic EVERYWHERE.

Thankfully, there are more zero waste stores popping up all over the country which is absolutely marvelous to see. Less plastic waste and supporting the local community, two fantastic initiatives well worth our support. Check out some of the UK’s best zero waste stores HERE.

I just hope some of the big UK supermarkets are taking note of this movement in New Zealand because hopefully we could start to see a much cleaner, plastic free planet sooner than we think.

Breaking news: people are more likely to buy fruit and vegetables that aren't wrapped in plastic. It has taken several years, and a pretty huge anti-plastic movement, for supermarkets to realise that fresh produce actually sells better when you can see, smell and touch it.
