My two young kids are no stranger to a Happy Meal or a BK equivalent.
I say this with very little shame.
In the interest of feeding two highly active, constantly ravenous boys and trying to fit in a super busy work/life family balance, a normal healthy-ish diet is more than regularly supplemented by "Old McDonalds" or the BK to ring the changes.
The news that BK are to stop producing plastic rubbish to entice kids (as if they need any more encouragement) is music to my ears.
And not only are they no longer producing plastic toys - if you take in any Happy Meal plastic toy to BK, you'll be rewarded with free food!
What a campaign! There are no losers here.
I'm no eco-warrior, but I'm growing more and more conscious about needless plastic and waste, I cant imagine how much these two global giants contribute to plastic in our oceans and landfills.
For what? Often ridiculously rubbish toys that fill up car cubby holes, boxes at home or end up stuck to the bottom of your foot as you scream and holler around the living room in pain.
Sorry to be a killjoy kids, but I'm done with happy meal toys!
Well done BK, finally a very good move to kick the rival. Now, tasty burger creators - find an alternative fast!
“So we came up with a simple idea, inspired by Burger King’s irreverent spirit: meltdown all plastic meal toys and transform them for good. Kids are still hungry for an experience, so it’s brilliant that these toys will be transformed into play areas and playful experiences that last longer than a few minutes. To capture attention, we needed to create a campaign identity that was as big and bold as the toys we would be collecting, although it originally felt strange to create something we knew we would ultimately melt. This is a huge step forward for kids’ meals of the future and we hope the campaign will encourage kids, parents, and even Burger King’s competitors to join the meltdown," he stated.
