Thank You NHS!

By Pie Recruitment

For the lucky ones out there reading this (although you may not feel that way!) you're probably coming to the end of day 4 in isolation. For the unlucky ones (like me) who had a seasonal cold, you could be on day 14 of isolation. And I know I'm not alone when I say I am going INSANE! I never thought I would miss the little things in life so much such as simple human interaction.

But if there is anything positive to take away from the current global pandemic it is the way our nation has pulled together. It's unbelievable. My local village Facebook group is filled with people offering to help the elderly and NHS. I even saw one man post he would give his car to an NHS worker for FREE just to avoid them getting the tube. It’s so heart-warming.

Now, I haven’t been around for as long as many people, I’m only 25, but I have never seen anything that got me as emotional as the NHS round of applause at 8pm last night. It was incredible. My whole street was out and I could hear roars and fireworks throughout the village. They truly are our heroes. And a round of applause also goes out to the 560,000 civilians who volunteered to help - including Charlotte and Sam from PIE!

It’s also great to see how many consumer businesses are doing what they can to support. Dyson are helping manufacture 10,000 ventilators. BrewDog have started working on making hand sanitiser at their distillery in Scotland. Apple have sourced 10million facemasks for the US and Europe and Nestle have donated $50m worth of soap and sanitiser. I could list a 100 more companies who are helping and 1000’s of brands offering NHS discounts, but I would have you reading this blog for days.

I guess the point of my blog and why I wanted to write this today is to highlight the phenomenal nation that we are and how well we do when we all pull together in times of disaster. I can’t wait to see you all on the other side when we come out a stronger and healthier nation, but in the meantime, stay safe, isolate and wash your hands!

In a gesture of thanks to frontline staff, people across the UK joined a mass round of applause from their doorsteps, windows and balconies at 8pm on Thursday.
