A different path: moving from CS to recruitment

By Pie Recruitment

I’ve had a long journey in CS and never thought recruitment would be part of it! But the opportunity came along, thanks to Rick Adams and Alan Fecamp and I am enjoying every minute of it!

After 3 months of helping candidates landing their dream job and clients filling the open CS positions here are some of my observations and takeaways:

Companies are looking for the perfect candidate and it shows on what sometimes feel like endless interview rounds.

Many CS professionals are looking to improve their skills, grow and move on from their current roles. Most are looking to find a company where the value they bring to the table is understood and truly appreciated. Some are looking to change just because... the market is on fire and they are curious to see what’s out there.

The demand is so high that the process sometimes feels transactional: some candidates navigate this huge landscape of opportunities without any proper preparation, follow-up or feedback. This was shocking to me given the nature of the role: being fully prepared, following up, giving and asking for feedback are the DNA of CS, right?!

The CS world is evolving at a fast pace and there are many options to choose from (and probably many more to come!) This is the perfect time to look beyond the short-term benefits and find the right path given your strengths, skills and most importantly passion!

For those who are looking to transition to CS: look for your transferable skills and focus on long term benefits, invest in training and networking! Find the right company, show what you can bring to the table and your dream job will follow.

It’s been three months of great fun and learning, full speed on! I have found my transferable skills and am trying to improve by learning from my mistakes. The best part of the job: getting to know so many talented people and being able to connect with them not only at a professional level, but at a personal level in a time when compassion, understanding and empathy are key!

If you are looking for your next dream job, or if you just want to have a chat about the opportunities out there, feel free to drop me a note! Always happy to have a chat and help the #CScommunity grow.
