Last weekend the Auto Team Girls at PIE swapped a “day sesh” at the pub for a day out at Kop Hill Climb – considering this event is only 20 minutes up the road from us and has been going on for years, it’s crazy that this was our FIRST time attending…but what a day!
The Kop Hill Climb is a cracking challenge that began back in 1910 where motorcyclists found a thrill in making their way up one of the steepest hills in Princes Risborough, the Chilterns. Over the years, cars joined in on the fun too and over 100 years later it’s become a 2 day event on the last weekend of September each year.
Our day consisted of Pimms, pointing at dogs and of course...cars! Even if you are not “into” cars, some of the history behind these vehicles was simply phenomenal and it was fascinating to see how much the mechanics, design and technology has evolved over the years – from hot rods and motorbikes, to pre and post war vehicles to modern supercars, this show really had it all.
We watched the afternoon climb which was just over 3 hours of cars and motorbikes making their way up the hill one at a time and were luckily enough to sit in the stands by the start line for the best view. Only a few vehicles didn’t quite make the finish line but being sat in such a lively crowd, those that were unsuccessful were certainly cheered for their efforts on their way back down.
Aside from the main event, the field opposite had the climbers and static car display for visitors to admire up close alongside manufacture stands with new electric vehicles and even a soapbox challenge – hold tight for my September 2023 post on mine and Chloe’s entry!
All in all, there was great stuff to see, eat and drink but a few personal highlights of mine below:
