Women only parking spaces – absolutely not.

By Pie Recruitment

There has been a lot in the news this week about gender equality and addressing the gender pay gap, however South Korea and China have taken the gender issue to a whole new level.

Women only parking spaces. Marked with a pink high heeled shoe on the pavement in some cases. They are wider and longer - 1 and a half times bigger than a regular parking space.

Are you joking?

When does gender equality turn into sexism or special treatment?

I am a female driver and I took my driving test 10 years ago now (I can’t believe it’s been that long!)

To pass my test, I had to parallel park, reverse around a corner and pull away from the parking position safely. When did I forget how to do that? I haven’t! All drivers learnt that skill, so why should women be treated differently when it comes to parking?

I don't believe this is in any way helpful.

What do you think?

Oversized female-only parking spots marked with a stiletto icon in eastern China have been strongly criticised as sexist on Chinese social media.
