One of the original founders of Tesla, JB Straubel, has made the big decision to leave the business that he created in order to help it flourish further. This must have been a difficult decision for Straubel, but was it for the best? Will the business flourish, or is Tesla losing a piece of its soul? Tesla shares dropped 11.5% within hours of the announcement. Only time will tell the real impact.
I was reading the below article which talks about Straubel in his back garden dreaming up and creating the future of automotive and with the fantastic partnership of Staubel and Musk, that's what they did. Now Straubel talks about how he loves the business and how proud he is to have got it there but acknowledges the fact that there are people out there that are in short, better than he is to help develop the business he created.
From this great story what I think is really key to highlight is that to let something grow, or to grow yourself some times the right decision is to move on, albeit a tough decision to make.
We have all been in a business where we love the people, we have mastered the job and to be honest are comfortable. But to truly develop our careers, our skills and ourselves we have to grow. It's the challenge that will keep you moving and stop you standing still.
I'm excited to see what's to come from Tesla and equally excited to see where Straubel will go next to develop himself!
So if you feel like now is the right time to move on and develop yourself, give me a call. Let's talk and see how we can help you find your next challenge.

Straubel, the company’s longtime chief technology officer, looks the part of the youthful, eager, problem-solving engineer who has no idea of the hell that’s coming for him, and that’s exactly what he was. Of course, that version of Straubel also could never have imagined the heights he would achieve.
