So, we are knocking on the door of the Christmas period – where the inevitable prosecco and mulled wine comes out. Perhaps this festive season, it is time to celebrate with a potent new tipple?
Hendrick’s (who I am a huge fan of) has come to market with a new approach to absinthe, chock full of their classic botanicals. 4000 bottles have exclusively been made available for on-trade.
At first glance, my stomach turned, and I had hazy flashbacks to festivals and house parties in my younger days, where I threw caution to the wind with spirits. I was thinking “there is no way that I am drinking that!’
However, given the reinvention of the gin market over the years from a spirt that you would associate with swigging on a park bench, to a refined product that is at the forefront of people’s minds on a summers day – why not absinthe?
It will be interesting to see how it’s received and if they will decide to roll it out to the masses. I for one will take the plunge if I manage to track it down. Fingers crossed and bottoms up!
“We’ve reimagined absinthe as an incredibly complex, unique and interesting spirit. Not one to be feared for its strength but to be used as a core component of today’s array of contemporary, refreshing cocktails.”
