Calm before the recruitment storm...

I’ve been working in recruitment for nearly six years and in that time, I’ve seen that there are job seeker and hiring trends; the summers are quiet, late autumn is busy, December is party season.

From conversations I have been having over the past fortnight, businesses are gearing up for the month ahead, with September traditionally being a busy time for recruitment and the automotive industry. With recent graduates entering the working world and September blues setting in as professionals return from their holidays, I often see an increase in those looking for their next exciting career opportunity.

It’s positive to see that our automotive clients were not subject to the usual summer slowdown in candidate appetite, with both job applications and new vacancies increasing across the automotive team here over the last few weeks.

Being in the right place at the right time is often a big reason why some people get hired over others. But how do you know if you’re timing your job search just right? After all, there are so many moving parts like staff turnover rates, seasonal needs, and earnings reports—not to mention the economy. Somehow, you’re supposed to hit this moving target and walk away with a job. Don’t despair. One aspect of the job hunt to consider is the recruitment cycle. Like most business functions, recruiting and hiring activity has ebbs and flows, and if you pay attention, you just might be able to time your application to when a hiring manager is most eager to bring in new talent
