Work Hard, Party Harder - The Festive Health Survival Guide

By Pie Recruitment

'Tis the season to be sociable. On top of busy personal social calendars, there's regularly lots of work do's too. Whether you're going with a genuine smile on your face or doing the "have to's", the combination of flu AND hangover season can have drastic effects, not only on your health but also your professional and personal productivity levels.

A hangover is no excuse for not turning up to work, and at this time of year, your boss is going to sniff you out before you can even say "must have eaten something funny", so damage limitation is the order of the day!

I came across this article that gives some genuinely useful tips for health preservation, some preventative measures and a couple of "had a few too many" rescue remedies.

A few of my favourites are -

  • Avoiding the canapes - otherwise known as flu breeding ground. If you can't refrain, at least make regular visits to the bathroom for a soapy hand wash throughout the evening.
  • Alcohol chasers - drink pear juice, sweet lime juice and coconut water with cucumber, tomatoes and cheese after every couple of drinks.
  • If you’ve got a week of partying, commit to a late bedtime each night for the whole week- get the circadian rhythms regular and you'll feel less tired.
  • Get light and air - wake up with a brisk walk in the daylight and take regular "light" breaks away from screens. The science bit of these and plenty more are all in the article - well worth a read!

Have a very Merry Christmas!

It’s a time of giving, but December takes it out of you too. Most of us hit the accelerator and don’t stop until January. There’s twice as much to do, and while a good amount involves food, drink and celebration, it’s still exhausting. And if you’re susceptible to feeling low in winter, the short, dark days can be tough. No wonder we can start to feel tired and run-down. Happily, it is possible to throw yourself into the festive spirit and stay well. We asked the experts how to sail through with your physical and mental health intact.
