It's a happy day when there's a new plastic reduction initiative by a major retailer.
Asda has announced that from 25th June they will be removing the plastic forks from their salads and protein bowls in their food to go category. Allied with the 256 tonnes of plastic they've already removed from this category, that's another 41 tonnes of plastic that won't be hitting the oceans/landfill.
It's obviously still just a drop in the ocean if you'll pardon the pun but every little helps. Oh sorry, wrong supermarket. It does also beg the question of what people who are actually on the go will use to eat their lunch. Never fear, I've done a little research and here's some handy cutlery you can keep in your handbags / cars / convenient storage locations. Just don't forget to wash them!

Asda has announced plans to scrap plastic forks from its salads and protein bowls, in a move it claims will cut its plastic use by 41 tonnes a year. The move would result in the removal of more than 24.5 million plastic forks each year across Asda’s own-brand salads, it said.
