Online demand - can dealers handle it?

By Ollie Church

GForces, a powerhouse in the online automotive ecommerce world and currently supplying to around 1 in 4 dealers across the UK, has seen a monumental shift in the online car buying mentality.

There is no doubt COVID-19 was the main factor to trigger this, however, as many in the space know, this has been a long time in the making.

Consumers now have more choice and if dealers are not able to provide the right customer journey, they will quite quickly lose their impact on the market. This begs the question, as the title suggests; can dealers cope with this increased volume and offer a wraparound solution to accommodate enough customer’s needs?

One thing is certain, and neatly summarised by GForces CCO Tim Smith in the article below, is that the findings show a clear increase in positive customer attitude towards buying big ticket items - such as cars - online. They have welcomed the ease and safety protocols that e-commerce can deliver in COVID-19 times.

“The number of cars sold online using its tech increased from 2,199 in 2019 to 29,209 last year – up by 1,228 per cent and worth more than £500m.”
