The car buying process over the last few years has drastically changed. This can be seen clearly in Auto Traders most recent stunt. A bespoke vending machine was installed near Spitalfields Market, allowing the general public to instantly buy a new car on the spot via a contactless payment on their phone.
It has now effectively become as easy to buy a car as it is to buy sweets in a candy shop. This stunt is a clear sign of things to come, the consumer doesn’t have time to trawl through dealers to search for a car and then haggle with salespeople for the best deal.
How long till more of these pop-up style vending machine appear across the UK? In Japan, they already have a 15 story car vending machine which allows buyers to select from a wide variety of luxury cars.
Is this the future for car buying?
A spokesperson for Auto Trader said: “Buying a brand-new car is an exciting experience, but it can often be tarnished by anxiety around haggling and knowing whether you’re looking at the right price. “So today we’re showcasing a real-life version on what can be found on Auto Trader; brand new cars at transparent pre-haggled prices that you can drive away today. “The only difference is that this Renault Zoe can be purchased at the touch of a card, testing London car buyer’s appetite for electric cars as well as a more instant car buying future.” The car vending machine is a concept that has been done before, notably by Carvana in the US.
