With Christmas only 19 days away it's safe to say our office is feeling very festive. The radio has had Heart Xmas on almost every day since the 2nd December, the tree decorations are up and the Christmas party is booked. Every day has brought us closer to a perfect PIE Christmas... until today.
Today we stumbled across the latest article from The Guardian declaring the top 50 Christmas songs and the whole office was in uproar. We couldn't disagree more. In at #5 Marvin Gaye - Purple Snowflakes? WHAT? .... Wham - Last Christmas ... DIDN'T EVEN MAKE THE TOP 10!
So we decided to make our very own PIE Top 10 Christmas Songs List, and what a list it is! Now, I must admit we did have some rather strange shouts for the top 10 such as Lou Monte - Dominic The Donkey, Destiny’s Child – 8 Days of Christmas and Lad Baby - We Built This City on Sausage Rolls (who hired Mark Walker?!), and there were also a few songs that just missed out such as José Feliciano - Feliz Navidad, Elton John – Step Into Christmas and Darlene Love – Christmas.
So without further ado, I give you The 2019 PIE Top 10 Christmas Songs List.
- The Pogues and Kirsty MacColl - Fairytale of New York
- Wham! – Last Christmas
- Mariah Carey – All I Want for Christmas Is You
- Chris Rea – Driving Home for Christmas
- Band-Aid – Do They Know It’s Christmas?
- Wizzard – I Wish It Could Be Christmas Everyday
- Bing Crosby – White Christmas
- Dean Martin – Let It Snow!
- Jona Lewie – Stop The Cavalry
- Slade – Merry Christmas Everybody

The best Christmas songs should only work at Christmas. They should make you feel festive, in the same way that the 174th repeat of The Snowman does. They should work anywhere – in shopping centres, in bars, pumping out of PAs in gig venues after the band has gone off, on the radio in a cafe, in your home or on your headphones.
