As a recruiter, there’s nothing more frustrating than a candidate pulling out of the process at the last minute. Although, finding out our Friday afternoon team meeting is taking place in the office rather than the pub comes close.
I’m sure there’s a lot of people out there in the Recruitment Industry that like the idea of a candidate being charged for ‘wasting time’ but realistically, is this a smart move? If your candidate pulls out of the process at the last minute for one reason or another, have you really done your job as a consultant properly? Which I can hold my hands up and say is something I’ve had to ask myself in the past.
Without a crystal ball, we can’t prepare ourselves for every possible situation because let’s face facts, people will always change their minds.
I believe the day recruiters start charging candidates for ‘time wasting’ or pulling out of processes will be the day we say goodbye to the future of recruitment, because at the end of the day, who wants to be charged for not doing anything wrong?
One recruitment agency – who has been blanked out of the LinkedIn screengrab – has listed some rather unusual requests within its pre to end client interview agreement. And in the event that a candidate turns down a job offer; the recruiter would expect them to pay £7,781 ($10,000) for the inconvenience of assisting them throughout the process.
