I came across this article this week about cringeworthy recruiter tactics. Now recruiters have a bit of a bad reputation and in some cases, rightly so.
Slicked back hair, brown brogues and last month's commission burning a hole in their pocket, this unscrupulous lot will do anything to get a deal over the line. That's the stereotypical view of a recruiter, and by the way out of the 3, I only have the slicked back hair. I saw a post recently comparing recruitment consultants to traffic wardens which really offended me. I mean come on, I know one or two wardens and they’re lovely people.
The way some recruitment businesses operate with their dodgy tactics is a massive driver on people’s perception. Fake jobs to bulk up their database, promising the world then never contacting the candidate again, and sending Inmails to Sales Directors “with a great opportunity” to be an administrator.
I like to think here at PIE we do NOT fit the stereotype. We earn a commission for the placements we make but showing credibility along the way is important to us, and you can’t build long term relationships with false intentions. After all, PIE stands for People, Integrity & Expertise.
Last year, Astral Norfolk a recruitment industry specialising in construction, released a job ad that looked like it would be better placed on page three in The Sun. It featured a tanned model dressed in a bikini coupled with the caption, ‘Want to see my white bits… Ooops sorry…I meant white collar candidates!’.
